Savannah Cats As Pets

Updated: Dec 8, 2020

There is a lot of misinformation out there on the internet about Savannah cats as pets.

Years before I got my first Savannah kitten, I researched the breed extensively. I found all kinds of information out there, and everything was very contradicting. There are certain organizations that are against owning Savannah cats and put a lot of false information out there. Most animals that are not properly socialized are not going to be very friendly, due to the fear of people, that is not specific to Savannah's, that even applies to a pomeranian puppy. My family thought I was crazy, they thought a Savannah would be aggressive and attack my kids and I, friends of family were saying "Oh no! Those cats are mean, don't get a Savannah!" Despite their concerns, I decided to do some more investigating, I spoke to several breeders, monitored posts of others who own Savannah's as pets, and finally, I decided to take the plunge!

Now 6 Savannah's later, I am completely obsessed with the Savannah cat breed, they are simply amazing! What initially caught my eye with Savannah cats was their undeniable beauty and dog like personalities. I love all animals, but I was more of a dog person than a cat person. Savannah cats are a very unique breed in that they will actually do a lot of things dogs would do, they are super playful, energetic, and man are they smart! You can train them to play fetch, go on walks, urinate in the toilet (my F3 taught herself by watching us), they are just amazing cats. Mine are all incredibly sweet, and great with my kids! We pride ourselves in properly socializing our kittens from birth, that is very important! They are like dogs that use the litter box and clean themselves! We didn't know what we were missing before we got our first Savannah!

Here you can see some of our previous F8 SBT Savannah kittens playing! They are so much fun! Why wouldn't you want a Savannah kitten? My kids go crazy for our Savannahs! If you feel that getting scratched once in a while by a Savannah kitten jumping out of your arms is dangerous, then a Savannah kitten is not for you! If you can handle some fun play and an occasional scratch, and would enjoy the company of a stunning charismatic fur-baby for life, a Savannah is for you! Savannah cats stole our heart, and now there is no going back!
